Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and creative 2D Pixel & Retro Artist Intern to join our game development team. The ideal candidate has a strong love for classic video games, a keen eye for color theory and sprite animation, and a desire to bring charming, nostalgia-infused worlds to life.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Art Creation: Create high-quality pixel art assets, including character sprites, environments, backgrounds, props, and UI elements.
  • Sprite Animation: Design smooth, frame-by-frame 2D pixel animations for character movements, combat sequences, and visual effects (VFX).
  • Style Consistency: Maintain a consistent retro art style across all visual assets in alignment with the project's art direction.
  • Tilemaps & Level Dressing: Build functional tilemaps and assist level designers in setting up game scenes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with game developers and designers to ensure art assets are optimized and properly integrated into the game engine.
  • Iterative Feedback: Receive constructive feedback from lead artists and iterate on designs to match the game's vision.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency with pixel art software (e.g., Aseprite, Photoshop, Pyxel Edit, or GraphicsGale).
  • Strong understanding of key pixel art fundamentals: tileability, palette choices, sub-pixel animation, and cluster control.
  • Solid grasp of core animation principles (timing, squash & stretch, anticipation).
  • Familiarity with retro art styles across classic gaming eras (8-bit, 16-bit, handheld).
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and hit project deadlines.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Game Art, Animation, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught portfolio experience).
  • Portfolio required: Must provide a portfolio showing examples of pixel art sprites, environments, and frame-by-frame animations.
  • 0–1 year of experience; passionate freshers with strong artistic portfolios are highly encouraged to apply.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with game engines like Unity, Unreal, Godot, or GameMaker for asset importing and setup.
  • Basic understanding of 2D lighting, particle systems, or VFX in games.
  • Knowledge of general low-poly or vector 2D art styles beyond pixel art.

The ideal candidate loves playing games, possesses a sharp analytical mind for breaking down game mechanics, and is eager to help ensure our games are bug-free, balanced, and fun to play.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Game Testing: Conduct rigorous functional, regression, performance, and playability testing across various game builds.
  • Bug Reporting: Identify, reproduce, and accurately document bugs, glitches, and usability issues with clear reproduction steps in defect-tracking tools.
  • Beta Test Coordination: Help manage and monitor beta testing phases, gather player feedback, and organize community reports into actionable insights for the dev team.
  • Test Case Execution: Execute detailed test plans and checklists for mechanics, UI/UX, audio, and overall game progression.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with game programmers, designers, and artists to clarify issue details and verify bug fixes.
  • Feedback & Balancing: Provide constructive feedback on game feel, user experience, difficulty scaling, and game balance.

Required Skills

  • Passion for video games across multiple genres and platforms.
  • Sharp attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for writing concise bug reports.
  • Basic understanding of game development pipelines and software quality assurance principles.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Game Design, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent self-taught QA knowledge).
  • 0–1 year of experience; passionate gamers and freshers with strong communication skills are welcome to apply.
  • Must have access to a reliable PC/laptop and high-speed internet connection for remote testing.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with bug tracking tools like Jira, Trello, Notion, or GitHub Issues.
  • Experience participating in game jams, early access testing, or closed/open beta programs.
